Reading is such a fundamental skill. It’s also just fun! Learning about and connecting with character’s worlds, getting lost in fantasy lands. It’s a great way to spend time alone or with family.

In my house, we seem to have books in every corner of the house. With that, comes a lot of money spent. If you are looking for a way to keep your kids bookshelves full while saving money, I have done some digging, in effort to find FREE books. Take a look and see what you think of this list.

Free books

1. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library:

Go to the website, complete the 4 steps. This includes checking the availability in your area. If available, you will enjoy free books mailed to your home.

2. Public Library:

I’ll admit that I often forget about this one, but what an amazing place to take the kids. Free tangible books, free audiobooks, free e-books, this place is a treasure trove.

3. Little Free Libraries:

I have only seen these stationed at local parks. A few of the books on our shelves came from several of these little libraries. This is a great community tool where you can both leave and take books. I found this map that helps you locate free little libraries in your area. My kids love to check these out. Sometimes we walk away with nothing, but the joy they have in looking is cool to witness.

4. FreeKidsBooks.org:

This site offers free children’s books in downloadbale PDF format.

5. Amazon:

If you are a Prime member, you can access free books, which are added daily.

  • Log into your Prime account
  • Go the the Prime reading page
  • Download the free Kindle app.

I came across several more sites offering free books when researching; however, they seemed to be difficult to navigate, as well as only offering very limited e-books. For that reason, I did not add them to the list. As always, if you have had success with any sites for free books, please share with the community.
